Apex Provides the Best Orlando Security Guard Services
Orlando, Central Florida, and North Florida are littered with shopping malls. Tourists from Europe and Asia frequent the outlets, carrying full bags and pulling luggage full of merchandise for their families back home. Many people don’t realize it… Retail malls are considered terrorist “soft targets” by security experts; meaning that your local mall is a potential prime target for terrorists and sick-minded criminals. The reasons are obvious, if you think about it: The typical mall usually has a large number of people; many of them are carrying packages of various sizes; and it is extremely easy for a shooter or someone with a bomb to walk in and out, as well as blend in with the crowds.
One of the most important factors in making a mall or other large public areas safer is the caliber of its security guards. Some studies consistently showed that mall security staff often are not trained adequately enough. In the tumultuous times that we live in today, it is more critical than ever before that the ones hired to protect you are adequately trained and equipped to carry out their job. Security forces should have anti-terrorism training, focusing on both the prevention of and response to terrorist acts. They should be trained to be very vigilant to observe their surroundings and keep their eye out for anything even remotely suspicious. Often too, any emergency management plans are developed without the input or participation of local first responders, including law enforcement. The selection of security officers is also very important. Background checks should be more stringent and include a criminal background check, as well as at least an initial drug test.
Outside of the security force, there are other factors that you, the public, can look for to verify that your favorite mall is a safe one. Look around to see if you see any cameras. A mall that is truly concerned about your safety will have a closed-circuit television system that is monitored live (as opposed to reviewing recordings later). It will also have passive barriers outside the building, designed to prevent explosive-laden vehicles from breaching the crowded mall. Also, access to the ventilation system will be secure.
We encourage you to take a close look at the mall your frequent. After all, it’s your life and the life of your loved ones at stake. Look around. Ask the mall management questions about what precautions are being taken, what training the security officers at that particular mall have received. How often do they run through emergency drills? Has there been any coordination between the mall and the local law enforcement? Do they know immediately how to handle a terrorist attack? You have a right to know. If you’re not happy with what you hear and your mall is anywhere near Kissimmee, Orlando, Daytona, or Ocala, you just might want to tell them about Apex Security.
