A message from Jill Murphy, CEO of Apex Security and Convention Services:
We here at Apex are bringing you holiday cheer, and security!
This year, Apex Officers are providing extra security at local shopping malls by escorting customers to their vehicles after hours. Feeling and being safe in a parking lot means a lot for local commerce and we were happy to be a part of it.
Additionally, Apex Security Officers are providing loss prevention at many stores and parking lots were patrolled to assist shoppers and keep them safe and deter vehicle break ins.
I have worked in the Security Industry for over 25 years and would like to offer some advice to help you, your family and friends stay safe and sound during this busy holiday season. While there is usually an increase of crime during the holiday season, there are many things we can do to reduce our risks and exposure.
1) When getting in/out of your vehicle, keep your finger on the panic button.
2) When pumping gas, turn off your car, take out your keys, keep your finger on the panic button, and lock all doors except for the driver’s door.
3) Keep your purse, laptop and all valuables out of sight while in your vehicle. Use your trunk! If you don’t have one, use a blanket.
4) If someone approaches you while you are in your vehicle roll your window down only a ½ an inch, never roll your window all the down.
5) We all like to wear jewelry, try to keep it covered while in public spaces. Don’t advertise.
6) Be aware of your surroundings at all times while in public spaces. When you are on the phone or using your blackberry while you’re walking through a parking lot, you are an easy target.
7) When your home, keep your doors locked at all times.
8) If you have a garage, use it park your vehicle inside but stay aware until the door closes completely.
9) Do not open your door for unexpected visitors or service people. Talk through the door first. Be sure before you open the door!
10) If there is ever a time you feel threatened in a situation start screaming and draw attention to yourself!
